Wednesday, April 13, 2016 is designated as South Carolina Independent Colleges Day. This event is part of the annual SC Independent College and University Week, as recognized by legislative resolution and gubernatorial proclamation.
During the 2016 South Carolina Independent Colleges Day, students from the 20 SCICU member colleges and universities will converge on the South Carolina Statehouse for meetings with legislators. Students will be reaching out to say thanks for the support, especially for the funding of the needs-based Tuition Grant Program and the State’s several merit-based scholarships.
SC Independent Colleges Day will kick off with a gathering/meeting at Trinity Episcopal Church (1100 Sumter St, just across Sumter street from the SC Statehouse) at 8 am. Following this meeting, students will meet with their legislators and other supporters of independent colleges and universities in South Carolina (Additional schedule details will be posted closer to the event date.).
In preparation for Independent Colleges Day, students are encouraged to write letters to their legislators in thanks for the funding of the needs-based Tuition Grant Program and other South Carolina merit-based scholarships. During 2015, 100% of SCICU member schools participated in this letter-writing campaign, with over 8,000 letters sent to SC legislators.
