About Us
Benedict College is a 140 year old Historically Black Liberal Arts College located on 110 acres in the heart of the Columbia, South Carolina. Benedict College offers degrees throughout the bachelor’s level in the arts, sciences, and social work. Nationally, Benedict has the 4th largest undergraduate population within UNCF network. Benedict is committed to establishing and maintaining high quality programs of teaching, research, and public service. The College was ranked 2nd in the nation in producing African-American Physics majors in the country, as reported by the Education and Employment statistic Division of the American Institute of Physics. Benedict College is the 2nd HBCU in the nation and the 1st in South Carolina to receive national accreditation for its Environmental Health Program (EHAC). The Benedict College Office of Teacher Education is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). The Benedict College Social Work Program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education and the Recreation and Leisure Services Program received accreditation by the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA).

Benedict College consists of six schools: The School of Business and Economics, The School of Education, The School of Humanities Arts and Social Sciences, The School of Science Technology and Engineering and Mathematics, The School of Honors, and The School of Continuing Education.
Additional Information
The Benedict College Debate Team recently won 1st Place at the National Association of African-Americans Honors Program Conference, October 2009. The College’s pioneering Service Learning Program is a national model program and serves over 114 non-profit organizations around the SC Midlands area. The program recently won the 6th Annual Commission on Higher Education’s Service Learning Competition. The Service Learning Program was awarded by NASA, the Science, Engineering, Mathematics and Aerospace Academy Award for Outreach Efforts. Benedict College offers students social and cultural activities that include theater, band, dance, concert, and gospel choir. Benedict Colleges teams, the tigers are members of the national collegiate athletic association (NCAA) Division II and participates in the southern intercollegiate athletic conference (SIAC).
