Dr. Judy Mirick, professor of Physics and Physical Science, is the 2024 SCICU Excellence In Teaching Award recipient for Spartanburg Methodist College. She holds three degrees from Clemson University – a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction Science and Math Secondary Education, as well as a Master of Science degree and a Bachelor of Science degree, both in Physics.
Dr. Mirick’s 25-year education career includes teaching science on the secondary and collegiate levels. Prior to joining the SMC faculty in 2019, she taught Physics at Andrew College in Cuthbert, Georgia, and went on to teach science classes at the Marlborough School, a private school in Los Angeles.
At Spartanburg Methodist, Dr. Mirick’s primary teaching load includes general Physics, Physical Science, and Introduction to Astronomy. Her Physical Science and Astronomy classes are very popular with students due to her ability to effectively convey complex concepts in easily understood messages. Dr. Mirick is well-known for her ability to effectively teach across the spectrum of student abilities.
Dr. Mirick is deeply involved with the college, faculty, and students outside the classroom. She participates in orientations, enrollment days, the C-Cubed faculty support group, and serves as a faculty athletic representative supporting both students and coaches.
