The 2024 SCICU Excellence In Teaching Award recipient for North Greenville University is Dr. Martin R. Jones, chair of Accounting and Business and assistant professor of Law and Ethics in the College of Business and Entrepreneurship. He holds a Ph.D. from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (Forth Worth, Texas) with a research emphasis in Business Ethics, specifically examining a post-modern culture emerging from the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Jones also earned two law degrees – a J.D. and an LL.B. – from the University of Central Lancashire (Preston, England). He was also awarded a Master in Theology by the Dallas Theological Seminary.
Dr. Jones is a dual British-American citizen, having moved to the United States from the United Kingdom in 2007. As an attorney in the United Kingdom, he was appointed Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales in 1999. Specializing in corporate and property law, Jones became a partner in a commercial law practice before assuming the role of lecturer of Business Law at Lancashire Law School. After moving to the United States to complete additional graduate studies, Dr. Jones served in a variety of leadership and pastoral roles in churches in Dallas, Chicago, and Asheville. After those leadership roles, Jones was an independent legal consultant to non-profit organizations and returned to full-time academic teaching in 2017.
At North Greenville University, Dr. Jones’ teaching load includes undergraduate and graduate level courses in Business Ethics, Leadership Ethics, and the Legal Environment of Business.
Dr. Jones is an early adopter of technology and has written articles and presented nationally about the impact of AI on higher education, as well as leading seminars and workshops on its implementation. He also serves as an independent legal consultant to non-profit organizations.
