Yancey joined the Allen faculty in 2019 as an adjunct professor teaching courses in Allen’s South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice Program and other online classes for the Social Science department. He transferred to the university’s English department in 2022. Yancey’s course load at Allen and over his more than three decades of teaching include a wide range of classes, including English, African American History, philosophy, and world religions.
Affectionately known as “Dr. YĆ¢” to students, Yancey is committed to the well-being of student scholars, challenging them to think analytically, critically, and logically. Outside the classroom, his campus roles include serving as an academic advisor and as a member of the Boeing Institute on Civility committee, Allen’s SACS Accreditation committee, and the university’s Academic Affairs committee. Yancey has also collaborated with Africana Studies scholars representing USC, Clemson, College of Charleston, and Claflin to present the 2022 symposium “Giving Voice to Africana Studies in South Carolina.”
Yancey’s scholarly research includes two works in progress. He is preparing a journal publication “In Search of an Africana Mental Wellness Paradigm: An Analyzation of Black Mothers’ Anguish over Their Black Sons’ Sociological Demise in America,” which touches upon themes included in a book he is working on: “If Tears Could Talk: Black Mothers’ Anguish, Black Sons’ Demise.”
