April 9, 2024 by SC Independent Colleges & Universities

Dr. Karl J. Trybus, professor of History, is Limestone University’s 2024 SCICU Excellence In Teaching Award recipient. He earned two graduate degrees from the University of Connecticut – a Ph.D. in History and a Master of Arts in International Studies (European Concentration). He was awarded a Bachelor of Arts in History and Hispanic Studies with Education by Connecticut College.

A member of the Limestone faculty since 2012, Dr. Trybus teaches a variety of introductory and advanced History courses and classes in Critical Thinking and Spanish. He also acts as advisor for the Senior History Capstone Projects. Dr. Trybus currently serves as department chair for Humanities and Communication and is the program coordinator for History and History Pre-Law.

Dr. Trybus is a historian of Modern Spain. His most recent book, ¡Vino! The History and Identity of Spanish Wine, was published by the University of Nebraska Press in October 2023.

The Limestone faculty recognizes Dr. Trybus’ achievements and leadership in the classroom, as they awarded him the Fullerton Teaching Award in 2015, the Limestone University 2020 Summer Research Funding Grant, and a 2021 First Year Champion Award.

“Dr. Trybus is incredibly deserving of this honor,” said Limestone University Acting President Jeremy Whitaker. “Dr. Trybus is respected and admired by our students, his colleagues, and our entire campus community. We’re fortunate to have him as a valued member of our extraordinary faculty here at Limestone. I know I speak for all of Saints Nation in congratulating him on this well-deserved recognition.”
