Lilly Endowment awards SWU $158,000 grant to continue Quest Institute

October 22, 2019 by SC Independent Colleges & Universities

CENTRAL, S.C. (courtesy swu.edu) — Lilly Endowment Inc. has awarded Southern Wesleyan University with a five-year continuation grant for the Quest Youth Theology Institute.

The $158,000 grant provides financial support for the university to continue to align Quest Academy with existing summer camps and engage high school students in theological reflection and vocational discernment. It also provides resources to sustain Quest Adventure as an experiential immersion weekend experience and Quest Media as a digital tool designed to inform students on issues related to the Bible, culture, calling and ministry.

The grant is part of Lilly Endowment’s High School Youth Theology initiative that supports the development of summer programs to help high school students discern a call to ministry.

“We are deeply thankful for the continued generosity of Lilly Endowment. This investment will help high school students engage the Bible, their culture and their unique life-calling. What an amazing privilege to play a part in this,” said Dr. Mike Tapper, chair of Southern Wesleyan’s Division of Religion.

According to Dr. Todd Voss, Southern Wesleyan University president, “This program provides a wide path for recruiting vocational and marketplace ministerial students to enroll at SWU. Last summer, SWU’s Quest Academy program impacted over 1,000 students. More recently, SWU’s Quest Adventure program hosted 47 high school students on campus. Quest Media’s social media platforms regularly engage 400 high school students with videos, articles and podcasts.”

Southern Wesleyan University is a Christ-centered, student-focused learning community devoted to transforming lives by challenging students to be dedicated scholars and servant-leaders who impact the world for Christ. For details about degree programs, go online to swu.edu.
