Dr. Jeffrey G. Howard, assistant professor of English and director of the Writing Center, is Converse University’s 2024 SCICU Excellence In Teaching Award recipient. Howard received a Ph.D. in English and the Teaching of English, as well as a graduate certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), from Idaho State University. He also completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he taught courses in multimodal composition, undergraduate thesis writing, and technical communication. Howard also earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with emphasis in professional writing from Brigham Young University-Idaho.
Howard joined the Converse faculty in August 2022, bringing with him over a decade of professional teaching experience and an impressive catalogue of research and publications, presentations, and exhibits. Howard’s current position at Converse includes both faculty and administrative duties. As professor, Howard teaches courses in traditional composition and multimodal composition, which includes visual, oral, and digital communication modalities. As the Writing Center Director, he supervises and mentors a staff of undergraduate and graduate consultants who provide writing and communication support for all students at Converse.
Howard’s students have the utmost respect for him. He is in touch with students’ current skills and what they need to be successful both now and after Converse. Howard works extremely well with members of the Converse community. He is committed to achieving effectiveness in reaching organizational goals and his dedication to excellence in teaching is admirable.
