Erika L. Rhett, lecturer and director of Accreditation in the Claflin University Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, is the university’s 2024 SCICU Excellence In Teaching Award recipient. She holds master’s degrees in Mathematics and Industrial Statistics from the University of South Carolina and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Claflin University.
Rhett’s teaching load includes College Algebra, Precalculus, Discrete Mathematics, Statistics, and Data Science. Her academic and research interests include educational statistics, student success, and programmatic accreditation. In 2023 she was a featured presenter at a Google national conference and lectured on the topic “Data Literacy with Data Commons.”
Rhett currently serves as Claflin’s ABET (Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology) coordinator. Faculty peers recognize Rhett’s excellence in the classroom and awarded her the 2017-2018 Excellence in Teaching Award in the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.
As a lifelong educator, Rhett exemplifies a wealth of knowledge, practical experience, and skill sets that powerfully impacts countless students and leaders all over the world. Throughout her 22 years of instruction at Claflin and other institutions, she has demonstrated a proven record of excellence in leadership and performance.
