CENTRAL, S.C. (courtesy swu.edu) — Southern Wesleyan University is pleased to announce its partnership with Palmetto State Teachers Association in the formation of a charter PSTA Southern Wesleyan University Student Chapter.
Dr. Janice Young, a long-time PSTA supporter and SWU’s director of teacher education and coordinator of field studies, will serve as faculty advisor for the chapter and support the students as they gain valuable experience in teacher leadership and decision-making. Lana Pitts will serve as president, Isaac Padgett will serve as vice president, and Emilee Westmoreland will serve as secretary/treasurer of the chapter.
The students are excited about the opportunity to collaborate with other student chapters, increase the capacity of pre-service teachers and their voices in the profession, and expand knowledge of the teaching profession. The Palmetto State Teachers Association will support these students during their time at Southern Wesleyan University and throughout their careers as educators.
The Palmetto State Teachers Association was organized in 1976 and is the largest association for educators in the state of South Carolina. PSTA’s membership includes classroom teachers, administrators, pre-service teachers, and retired educators. The association provides professional development, legislative updates, money-saving discounts, and professional liability coverage for its members.
