SPARTANBURG, S.C. (courtesy SMC Facebook page) — Meet Candy Ortiz! She is a senior studying business and psychology. She serves on the student government association (SGA) as a senior senator and is a peer tutor.

What do you enjoy about being on the SGA?
“I love being a voice for the class of 2022. I love getting to meet new people, sharing thoughts, and thinking of exciting ways to end our undergrad journey at SMC.”

And what do you enjoy about being a peer tutor?
“My favorite part of being a tutor is being able to explain materials from a different perspective that leads students to learn and apply!”

What do you think makes SMC special?
“I have to say the faculty and staff make SMC so special. They constantly strive to ensure the best possible education and environment. I always feel welcomed, appreciated, and safe on campus.”

What’s your favorite thing to do in Spartanburg?
“My favorite thing to do in Spartanburg is to go downtown. I love exploring small local coffee shops. My favorites are Little River Coffee Bar and Spill the Beans. I also love to go to the parking garages, play music, and look over Spartanburg at night.”

You’re an awesome Pioneer, Candy!
