South Carolina update – Wait and see

October 18, 2021 by SC Independent Colleges & Universities

This is a brief update, as we await the return of the General Assembly to the State House.

While the Senate has announced no plans, the media is reporting House Judiciary Chairman Chris Murphy (R-Dorchester) expects the House will return to address redistricting by the first week of December.

That’s not soon enough for the NAACP and the American Civil Liberties Union, which have filed a lawsuit in federal court asserting that the General Assembly’s delay in approving new district lines for state and federal representatives is causing “prolonged uncertainty” for the state’s voters.

We’ll all just have to wait and see.
