SPARTANBURG, S.C. (courtesy SMC Facebook page) – Livingston Hawkins is a junior studying English and history. And he’s very involved at SMC! He is a junior senator in the student government association, the editor in chief of the Trailblazer (SMC’s student-run newspaper), and he’s the president of the drama club.

Hear what Livingston has to say about being involved on campus and find out his favorite things to do in the burg in our Q&A below.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Q. What do you enjoy about being involved in campus clubs and organizations?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A. Being involved in clubs and organizations is something that I see as being vital to the college experience. These roles allow me to take advantage of my time here at SMC, interact with my fellow students, and improve myself academically.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Q. What do you think makes SMC special?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A. SMC is special as a school because it has so many resources and opportunities for myself and other students who may be first-generation or low income. I have found that anytime I need help with anything, there is someone here on campus willing to go out of their way to make my journey easier. That passion for student success is so important.

Q. What are your favorite things to do in Spartanburg?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A. I frequent the Little River Roasting family of coffee shops (Little River Roasting Coffee Bar in the Masonic Temple & Pharmacy Coffee in the Montgomery Building), and I buy my own locally sourced coffee beans from them to grind and brew in my dorm. I also frequent Hub City Bookshop next to the Coffee Bar and the comic shop, Tangled Web, near Westgate.
