COLUMBIA, S.C. — S.C. Chamber President and CEO Bob Morgan will be the keynote speaker for the SCICU Spring Board Meeting on March 10. Bob Jones University, SCICU’s newest member institution, will host SCICU’s return to in-person board meetings — the first since February 2020.
Morgan joined the S.C. Chamber as president and CEO in April 2021. He brings to South Carolina nearly two decades of progressive Chamber leadership, including his presidency at the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce 2005-2018. Morgan and his Charlotte Chamber team managed nearly 800 economic development projects adding 69,000 new jobs and $6.7 billion in capital investment for the city.
“Bob Morgan is one of South Carolina’s top business leaders and we look forward to his thoughts on economic development and the role SCICU’s 21 member institutions can play in the state’s future,” said Jeff Perez, SCICU president and CEO. “I hope to learn how SCICU can better support our member colleges and universities as they educate and inspire South Carolina’s next generation of leaders.”
SCICU, a member of the S.C. Chamber, partnered with the Chamber to secure passage of COVID-19 limited liability legislation which provides private enterprises, including independent colleges and universities, with protection against frivolous lawsuits associated with COVID-19.
SCICU is also proud that Trustee Cynthia Bennett serves as the Chamber’s chief diversity officer.
The SCICU Board of Trustees includes the 21 campus presidents and 41 business and community leaders who generously offer their knowledge and experience to help ensure SCICU operates efficiently and effectively.
“Higher education is undergoing a period of major changes, which were accelerated by the pandemic,” said Perez. “Just as our member institutions are adjusting to the ‘New Normal,’ SCICU must adapt to more fully support them and their 35,000 students.”
