NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (courtesy newberry.edu) — Hannah Jane Curry, a Newberry College junior, has been crowned Miss South Carolina USA 2020.
The competition was held Nov. 23 at the North Charleston Coliseum & Performing Arts Center.
The 20-year-old Greer native won the title as Miss Greenville USA, competing in a field of 28 contestants from across the state. She will represent South Carolina next year as she competes for the title of Miss USA.
Curry is an early childhood education major, a member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority and a student ambassador in the College’s admission office. She plans to graduate from Newberry in 2021.
The last Newberry College student to be crowned Miss South Carolina USA was another Alpha Xi Delta member, Amanda Pennekamp, in 2003. After taking first runner-up at Miss USA 2004, she graduated that year with a degree in theatre and speech communications. Pennekamp went on to represent the United States in the 2006 Miss Earth pageant, placing in the top 16.
