National radio host Tom Joyner gives $1,000 scholarships to 15 Benedict College seniors

January 12, 2020 by SC Independent Colleges & Universities

COLUMBIA, S.C. (courtesy benedict.edu) -– In December 2019 15 Benedict College graduating seniors were recipients of a generous donation of $1,000 each from the hardest working man in radio and philanthropist, Mr. Tom Joyner. Before signing off on his final nationally-syndicated radio show of 25 years, The Tom Joyner Morning Show, Joyner announced the 15 need-based scholarship awards to Benedict College.

“I applaud Tom Joyner for raising more than $60 million dollars for HBCUs throughout his legendary career,” said Dr. Roslyn Clark Artis, President and CEO of Benedict College. “We are grateful for his philanthropic spirit and passion for students at HBCUs. His generous gift will assist our students in becoming the BEST of BC!”

The mission of the Tom Joyner Foundation is to strengthen the country’s HBCUs by raising funds to help keep students enrolled in school and on the path to success.
