SUMTER, S.C. (courtesy morris.edu) — Morris College student Takeara Robinson participated over the summer in the Pee Dee Area Health Education Center’s (AHEC) Pathways to Medicine program.

The program gave Robinson multiple opportunities to observe medical professionals. She completed office observations with Dr. Michael Ouzts, a primary care/family medicine physician with McLeod Primary Care in Turbeville. Robinson also observed Dr. Rodney Alan, an orthopedic surgeon specializing in robotic-assisted surgery, including hip and knee surgery, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence.

Robinson’s summer experiences also included an in-depth examination of diabetes in the context of race, public health, class, and heredity. She is also preparing to take the MCAT (Medical College Admission Test).
