SUMTER, S.C. (courtesy morris.edu) — Morris College alumna Dr. JiMiesh Green Crane has donated a Sharp Interactive Smart Board to the college to help make online STEM instruction more effective for Morris students.
To express gratitude for Morris College helping her navigate her career path, Dr. Crane contacted Dr. Radman Ali, her biology major advisor, to inquire about what the Division of Natural Sciences and Mathematics needed to help improve academic instruction. Dr. Ali explained that the division needed a Sharp Interactive Smart Board to help make online STEM instruction an exciting experience for students. Within a month, Dr. Crane purchased the $10,000 Smart Board with a three-year service contract.
“Thank you for always having an open-door policy to explain things, even if it was after 5 p.m.,” said Dr. Crane. “It is because of your dedication and leadership I am where I am today. Thank you for all that you have done to help me, those before me, and those after me.
“I am utterly astounded by your expressions of gratitude and love. I am also overwhelmed by the extent of your love for your alma mater. It is because of students and graduates like you that Morris College continues to exist. Morris College opened the door for you, and you entered it widely and with force, commitment, and dedication,” said Dr. Ali.
“Morris College and the Division of Natural Sciences and Mathematics are grateful for stellar graduates like Dr. Crane who have excelled academically and professionally, and who reach back to help their alma mater to continue to grow beyond what they could have ever imagined,” said Morris College President Leroy Staggers.
Crane is a cum laude 2005 Bachelor of Science graduate of Morris College. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biology in 2005 and since her graduation has excelled academically and professionally. While a student at Morris College, she participated in summer research at MUSC and was a leader among her peers both in the classroom and in STEM Club activities. She was crowned as Miss Morris College for the 2004-2005 academic year and became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority.
Dr. Crane is now an orthodontist and the owner of the Smile Tuners Orthodontics in Decatur, Ga. She holds memberships in the American Association of Orthodontists, the Southern Association of Orthodontists, the American Dental Association, and the Georgia Dental Association.
