John I. Smith Charities makes new gift to SCICU Student Lifeline Grants Program

May 19, 2024 by SC Independent Colleges & Universities

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Thanks to a new gift from the John I. Smith Charities, more students at South Carolina’s private colleges and universities can weather unexpected financial challenges and stay in school to finish their degrees.

A Greer, S.C.-based philanthropic organization focusing on education, human services, and the arts, John I. Smith Charities is directing its $10,000 gift to SCICU’s Student Lifeline Grants Program, which helps students persist through financial crises and avoid dropping out.

“A $500 car repair can be an insurmountable hurdle that forces a student to withdraw,” said Jeff Perez, SCICU president and CEO. “Expanding our emergency financial grant program through the generous support of John I. Smith Charities helps make the dream of a college degree reality for more students attending South Carolina’s private colleges and universities.”

The SCICU Student Lifeline Grants Program welcomes donations of all sizes. Donating online is easy and secure. Emma Reabold, SCICU vice president for development and campus services, is always available to help you plan gifts that enhance the education of the more than 36,000 students who attend SCICU’s 21 member colleges and universities in the Palmetto State. Emma welcomes opportunities to visit with you. Reach out today via email or her mobile (843) 861-3121.
