Furman Paladins hold at No. 2 in AFCA FCS Top 25 Poll

November 17, 2023 by SC Independent Colleges & Universities

GREENVILLE, S.C. (courtesy furmanpaladins.com) — 2023 Southern Conference outright champion Furman, winners of eight straight, remains No. 2 in this week’s AFCA FCS Top 25 Poll, released Nov. 13.

The Paladins (9-1, 7-0 SoCon) trail only reigning FCS national champion South Dakota State in this week’s poll. Montana (3rd), Montana State (4th), and South Dakota (5th) round out the top five.

Three other SoCon teams are also ranked in the Top 25 — Chattanooga (16th), Western Carolina (18th), and Mercer (24th):

Furman, which clinched the outright 2023 SoCon championship — the 15th in program history — with its 37-3 win over VMI on Saturday, has matched the school standard for consecutive SoCon wins (13). The Paladins, who have also won a program record eight straight league games, tee it up in the regular season finale this Saturday at Wofford. Kickoff at Gibbs Stadium is set for noon.
