SPARTANBURG, S.C. (courtesy converse.edu) — On Tuesday, April 16, 2024, Converse University, Wofford College, OneSpartanburg, and Spartanburg County School Districts Three and Seven announced their collaboration to invest in Spartanburg’s future through education with a signing ceremony for Wofford students for the 2024-2025 academic year. This 4+1 cooperative alliance allows students to achieve their Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) in five years. It will develop and implement educational programs for Wofford College undergraduate students to allow for a smooth transition into Converse University’s MAT programs and initial teacher certification.
“I’m excited to be here and celebrate this collaboration,” Converse President Boone Hopkins shared as he addressed the first group of students during the signing event. “This year marks 60 years of graduate education at Converse University. We are excited about welcoming these new students, and we look forward to the impact they will have on the education system in our state.”
Teachers are the catalysts for transformation in a community, and investing in their education is critical. This program is designed to advance Spartanburg County’s teacher workforce through a partnership between Wofford College and Converse University. It will ensure degree completion for Converse’s 30-hour program in one calendar year and a 37-hour program at a similarly expeditious rate. OneSpartanburg, Inc., and Spartanburg County School Districts Three and Seven will provide the resources that cover tuition, fees, and course materials for participating MAT students.
