Columbia College faculty discuss new pathway for potential teachers

August 13, 2020 by SC Independent Colleges & Universities

COLUMBIA, S.C. (courtesy columbiasc.edu) — Columbia Business Monthly featured Columbia College’s Dr. Marla Sanders and Dr. Tracy West in a discussion of the college’s Alternative Pathways to Educator Certification (APEC) Center. The APEC Center was established in June 2018 through a partnership with Richland School District One and Fairfield County School District to offer an alternative pathway to teacher certification.

Dr. Marla Sanders is Associate Professor of Education and Co-Director of the APEC Center, and Dr. Tracy West is Dean of the Division of Education and Co-Director of the APEC Center. Their article, APEC Center: A New Pathway for Potential Teachers, outlines some of the challenges South Carolina faces with teacher shortages and retention, and discusses how the APEC Center works to help tackle this issue.
