About Us
Charleston Southern University is an independent, comprehensive university grounded in the liberal arts tradition. The Lowcountry’s only Christian university is affiliated with the South Carolina Baptist Convention and has 4,000+ students and a student-to-faculty ratio of 12:1. Founded as the Baptist College at Charleston in 1964 upon the principle that students should have an opportunity for a quality education under the guidance of Christian faculty, the institution changed its name to Charleston Southern University in 1990 to reflect the offering of graduate programs.
CSU is located in the center of the Charleston metro region and is home to South Carolina’s only aeronautics–professional pilot degree program and the dual degree for MBA in healthcare management and Doctor of Physical Therapy. With more than 80 academically rigorous and faith-integrated undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs, students can choose from traditional liberal arts degrees or STEM-focused programs in engineering, aeronautics, cybersecurity, nursing, and more.
Campus life offers multiple opportunities for engagement with a vibrant campus ministries program, multiple student organizations, an athletic program competing in NCAA Division I, and a campuswide tradition of packing more Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes than any other university in the U.S. for six years in a row.
