Coker University remembers Gloria Bell, alumna and long-serving trustee

January 25, 2024 by SC Independent Colleges & Universities

HARTSVILLE, S.C. (courtesy coker.edu) — Coker University remebers Gloria Bell, a 1974 graduate and a long-serving member of the university’s board of trustees. Bell passed away January 1, 2024, surrounded by her family in Florence, South Carolina.

Bell served on the board of trustees from 2003-2007 and 2010-2023, a total service of 17 years. She served in various capacities while on the board, including Treasurer, Chair of the Audit Committee, and a member of the Budget and Finance, Investment, Enrollment and Student Life, Bylaws, Facilities and Finance, Executive, and Presidential Search Committees.

“There is no question the world is a better place because Gloria was in it,” President Natalie J. Harder said. “I have never met anyone who devoted herself to helping others like Gloria did.”

Gloria also received the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award and Alumni Service Award. She graciously contributed years of her talents in finance and board service to the institution, for which the university is forever grateful.

“Coker is honored that we can count her as one of our alumni,” Dr. Harder said. “She was an outspoken advocate and supporter of her alma mater. We loved her dearly and hope to emulate her spirit in our work.”
