ORANGEBURG, S.C. (courtesy Claflin Twitter feed, claflin.edu, and tandd.com) — After an extended hiatus related to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Claflin University Concert Choir returned to the City of Orangeburg’s Stevenson Auditorium on Nov. 28 with a community performance of Handel’s Messiah.
The annual holiday Messiah choral performance began in 1997 but was interrupted three years due to the pandemic. Supported by the Downtown Orangeburg Revitalization Association, the Claflin University Concert Choir, under the direction of Dr. Charlie Toomer, returned to the stage and delighted all in attendance. Claflin’s choir was joined in the performance by university employees, members of the Orangeburg community, a number of guest soloists, and a live orchestra.
