COLUMBIA, S.C. (courtesy allenuniversity.edu) — As Allen University continues a steady yet exponential trajectory of growth, university officials have added two new executives in preparation for the university’s planned progression, including the renovation of the Good Samaritan-Waverly Hospital. Dub Taylor, Vice President for Institutional Advancement, and Dr. Teesa Brunson, Director of Development and Associate Vice President for Institutional Advancement, will lead the university’s fundraising, marketing, and alumni relations efforts. Both Taylor and Brunson assumed their duties July 1.
The pair joined the almost 150 year-old university at a tipping point in its history. Unprecedented enrollment growth, a strengthened financial base, new academic programs, including the university’s first graduate degree, as well as an expanded athletic program – Yellow Jacket football, women’s soccer, women’s softball – and the rebirth of the Band of Gold, have occurred over a 33-month period.
The institution is embarking on a multi-million dollar campaign to fund the renovation and expansion of the Good Samaritan-Waverly Hospital. The restored and expanded facility will serve as a permanent memorial to the Emanuel Nine, among other purposes.
“The timing and specific professional and personal attributes Mr. Taylor and Dr. Brunson bring to the university will hasten the successful completion of the Good Samaritan-Waverly Hospital project,” said President and CEO Dr. Ernest McNealey.
With 20 years experience as a corporate executive, higher education professor and entrepreneur, Taylor is adept at building strong sales and recruitment leadership teams. He specializes in the areas of sales and revenue growth, comprehensive marketing strategy and the delivery of business acquisitions.
He earned a Bachelor of Arts in history from Stillman College, an executive MBA from the Jack Welsh Management Institute and is working toward the completion of a business doctorate from Walden University.
“Dr. McNealey and university leadership have already laid a foundation upon which we will be able to further build. I look forward to taking advantage of any additional opportunities that will help to advance the university’s progress,” Taylor said.
Before assuming her current position, Brunson served as Assistant Vice President for Institutional Advancement and Development Officer for Major and Planned Gifts at Voorhees College. In this role, she spearheaded the college’s fundraising initiatives to meet the annual fund goal of $1.2 million.
Brunson was awarded the Bachelor of Arts in English from SC State University, a Master of Science in print journalism from Florida A&M University and Doctor of Education in higher education leadership from Nova Southeastern University.
“I look forward to contributing meaningful work that will help to ensure the university’s legacy as a beacon of hope for those who seek to improve their quality of life through higher education,” said Brunson, a 15- year higher education professional with expertise in marketing, communication and development.
