Denmark, S.C. Voorhees College recently received $100,000 from SCE&G to assist the institution with continually providing a quality education to students.
As a part of SCE&G’s 2015 Fellows Scholarship Program, Voorhees received $75,000. SCE&G contributed an additional $25,000 to the institution for a retro lighting upgrade on campus.
“The Voorhees College family is very appreciative of the generosity of SCE&G,” said President Cleveland L. Sellers, Jr. “This contribution will assist Voorhees with enhancing our capacity to provide our students with a quality education, which will prepare them for this global society.”
The check from SCE&G was formally presented to Voorhees on May 9 during the commencement convocation.
“We’re proud to support Voorhees College and be a part of their ongoing efforts to fully prepare students for successful careers,” said Kenny Jackson, senior vice president of economic development, governmental and regulatory affairs for SCANA, the parent company of SCE&G. “Voorhees College has a rich history in our state and it’s an honor to support their efforts to fully meet the current and future needs of deserving students while also helping improve the overall energy efficiency of their campus.”
In addition, SCE&G has agreed to spearhead Voorhees’ effort in creating a corporate roundtable. This initiative is spearheaded by Senator John L. Scott, who chairs the Institutional Advancement Committee of the Board of Trustees. The purpose of the corporate roundtable is to meet with corporations to begin discussing what institutions like Voorhees need to know about the corporate world.
“Through this partnership, we hope that other corporations and businesses will participate by leading lecture series, providing insight in what curriculum is needed for the current and future workforce and offer meaningful internships for our deserving students,” said Sellers.
