February 29, 2016 is the deadline for submitting applications/proposals for the 2016 SCICU-sponsored Student/Faculty Research Program. 2016 marks the 19th year SCICU has sponsored the research program specifically for students attending SCICU’s 20 member private colleges and universities.
The 2016 Student/Faculty Research Program will give students opportunities to receive funding in support of research projects in scientific, historical, cultural, and social fields. Funding is also available for research conducted on matters specifically related to Hobcaw Barony, a 16,000+ acre historically-significant plantation and research reserve in Georgetown, SC.
Research project applications will be considered and judged by the evaluation team in March. Later in the same month, winning research projects will be announced and funding will be distributed to the respective colleges.
Research activities for the 2016 Student/Faculty Research Program will conclude on December 9, 2016. Student researchers will then be required to submit one-page abstracts of their research findings by January 27, 2017.
Student researchers in the 2016 Student/Faculty Research Program will have the opportunity to present the findings of their research at the 2017 Research Symposium, which will be held at Milliken & Company corporate headquarters in Spartanburg.
In 2015, SCICU, through generous donors, provided funding in excess of $98,000 for 32 research projects conducted at 12 SCICU member schools. Students who conducted research projects in the 2015 research program will have the opportunity to present their findings on February 18 at the 2016 Research Symposium held at the Milliken & Company headquarters in Spartanburg.
