COLUMBIA, SC – Benedict College held its annual PLUS (Preparation for Leadership and Unity through Service Day) Day on April 16.
PLUS Day was established at Benedict College to allow people of the community and the state to engage in a day of service collaboratively with the Benedict College family. Benedict College is one of few historically black colleges in South Carolina that has established service-learning as a graduation requirement. Event organizers view PLUS Day as a means of fostering the service ethic of the College’s mission by motivating students and community members across the Midlands to unite in service to affect change in the community.
In the 2016 event, students packaged 10,000 meals for the nonprofit Feeding Children Everywhere that were distributed to two food pantries in the Midlands. Over 4,000 of those meals were delivered to Oliver Gospel Mission.
