Columbia, SC- The Palmetto Capital City Classic Committee (PCCC) held its Kick-off Press Conference at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center to announce the teams and the activities leading up to the Thirteenth Annual Palmetto Capital City Classic. The 2014 Palmetto Capital City Classic football game between the Benedict College Tigers and the S.C. State University Bulldogs will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at the Charlie W. Johnson Stadium.
Hall of Fame Coach Willie Jeffries, Executive Director of the Palmetto Capital City Classic, introduced the participating teams and presented the respective Athletic Directors for both teams to the media and the public. Coach Jeffries also announced the complete schedule of the Classic week events.
During the press conference, Columbia City Councilman Sam Davis made remarks on behalf of the City of Columbia. Scott Powers, will spoke on behalf of the Columbia Regional Sports Council. Alumni leaders from both participating schools are also invited to attend.
The City of Columbia and Richland County have been long-standing partners with the Palmetto Capital City Classic Committee, and have supported the Classic for the past twelve (12) years.
This year’s Classic will be the thirteenth annual game and will feature an array of scheduled and planned events including the PCCC Golf Tournament, PCCC R&B and Jazz Old School Show, PCCC Pre-game Show and the PCCC Battle of the Bands Drum-line Challenge, a marquee event last year featuring college and high school bands, and an Alumni Mixer/Reception.
